Dr. Lyla Blake-Gumbs received her Bachelor of Science in Toxicology from Northeastern University in Boston, MA before attending Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA where she received her Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Blake-Gumbs received her post-graduate training and served as Chief Resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in Dallas, TX. She subsequently relocated to Northeast OH, where she became an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University Department of Family and Community Medicine in Cleveland, OH where she was also granted a Master of Public Health from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. In 2013, she was recruited to The Cleveland Clinic where she served in the clinical departments of both Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine. Her professional interests lie in understanding how improving lifestyle behaviors can positively impact chronic disease management in communities where disease burden is highest, as well as globally. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Institute of Functional Medicine, and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
