Dr. Jim Brown grew up on the North Shore in Nahant, Massachusetts, and graduated from St. John’s Prep in Danvers in 1988. He earned his bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Colby College in 1992 before beginning his career in Boston’s financial district.
Inspired to pursue medicine after his father was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, Dr. Brown returned to school to complete his pre-medical requirements while continuing to work full time. He went on to earn his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2001 as a National Health Service Corps Scholar.
Dr. Brown completed his internship and residency at North Shore Medical Center from 2001–2004 and served as Chief Resident in 2004. His career has focused on community-based primary care and physician leadership throughout Massachusetts. He worked at North Shore Community Health Center before joining Atrius Health, where he practiced from 2008–2023 and served as Medical Chief from 2017–2023.
After spending two years with Mass General Brigham in a non-administrative role, Dr. Brown realized how much he valued leadership and community medicine. In 2025, he was excited to join Community Health Center of Cape Cod as Medical Director, where he continues his commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
